You will need to provide gifts for your child’s caregivers, orphanage director, and your facilitator(s). Typically, they are inexpensive and something you can easily fit into your luggage. Plan on providing gifts for approximately 6-8 caregivers; including the orphanage director. The gifts can be things like seasonal accessories: scarves, gloves, and hats. You could do things like small purses, make-up gift set, or perfume/lotion gift sets. If you live in a large city and can find things with your city’s name on it, those are fun gifts also. Be creative and have fun with it. Try not to purchase items that could cause problems at customs. Examples are: wine and produce.
You will also need to provide some items for your intended children and their group “groupa.” I wouldn’t purchase anything for their group until you know the age of the child. Older children are not always in groups. Plus, you bring things like room temperature drinks and snacks for the group and these items are purchased while in Ukraine. Your intended children can be brought a stuffed animal or other age appropriate item. If you know you will be adopting a younger child, a stuffed animal you have slept with for about 2 weeks is great because it will have your scent on it.
